The owner found this guitar leaning against the front door of the band rental house in Novato, CA, in 1972. His best friend and band mate, Terry Stine, traded his 57 Strat for this burst and UPS’d it to him from South Bend, Indiana. The refin was likely done at Gibson. It has a PAF in the rhythm position and a 60’s humbucker in the bridge position. Big frets were put on this guitar and the tuners were upgraded.

This guitar was played on Sammy Hagar’s “Red” album at Abbey Road Studios and Eddie Money’s album “Playing For Keeps” at the LA Record Plant. Touring with Eddie, this fiddle played everywhere: Day On The Green, Cleveland Browns Stadium to 80,000, Oakland Colosseum, the old Comiskey Park, the TV show “Fridays”, LA Colosseum, several gigs in Australia and Japan including Budokhan with Santana, back and forth across the US several times, across Canada opening for early Van Halen.

Les Paul visited the owner of this guitar at Guitar Center in Central Chicago for a meet and greet prior to a Hard Rock gig with Neil Schoen later that day. Les graciously signed the '53 with a gold pen. This was about 1999 or so. He was the nicest man you could ever meet.
